B.B. Dakota was founded in 1986, in Laguna Beach, California by Gloria Brandes, a Canadian fashion designer from Montreal. She married an American in 1984 and followed her new husband to southern California. Brandes brought her unique French sensibility to the clothes that she created which set B.B. Dakota apart from the mainstream of Orange County surf and skate lines. The brand has been an insider’s secret for many years with many devoted fans lining up outside the original store in Laguna Beach, which was a mission style 1930’s era post office, for a chance to buy the clothes. In 2005 the secret was out as many fashion editors began to publicize this small exclusive brand in editorials in national magazines. Today B.B. Dakota is available in many stores across the country and is focusing on smaller independent boutiques to keep the brand from becoming over-exposed.

Fall and Holiday 2008 were shot at Smashbox Studio in Culver City.

The look for Fall is mod debutante with grungy friends in the band. Our girl has her adventurous side. She is full of contradictions. She is both a saint and a sinner. She mixes clothes from designer looks with street fashion. But what she has most is great style. Our clothes are modeled after things she would love to wear, put together in her quirky style. There are lots of sophisticated designer looks cut to young mini dress proportions, skirts and shorts to be worn over tights with boots or flat shoes There are short mod coats and plaid pea coats.

For Holiday '07- we look to the opulent, but tragically naive romance of Marie Antoinette with gold, silver, sequins, velvet, tweed and shine, embellished dresses and coats in colors of ivory, grey and deep iris. The combination of high and low fashion is part of what gives our clothes that unique look that we love so much for this year. You just need some self-confidence and B.B. Dakota clothes to create your own individual style!
