CATA, the leader Agency in Caribe promotion and positioning the region as a multidestiny tourist destination will be present at EIBTM 2007.

Caribe means its fine and white sands and its smooth and warm swell make of the time spent there a delicious experience. Discover in its sea the colors of the second biggest coral barrier in the world welcomed by the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy seeing the turtles’ eggs laying, snorkeling and scuba diving are just some of the musts in the Caribbean Central American Coast.

Tourism is on the rise in the region mainly due to the increase in the number of flights that have opened up from Europe, America and the Caribbean to the countries of the region, multiplying the number of seats and therefore allowing an increase in the number of tourists visiting the attractions offered by Central America.

To the exotic characteristics of the seven countries of the region--Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama-- the natural and cultural beauties of the isthmus must be added.
Central America’s tourist offer encompasses a great variety of attractions, highlighting the great cultural diversity of the region, a vast vegetation, warm Caribbean beaches to practice water sports such as scuba-diving and surfing, attractions such as the Mayan Archaeological Parks, colonial and modern cities and monuments that contrast with the ancestral native cultures.

The Central American countries combine their efforts to promote the cultural and natural tourist attractions of the whole region in their first regional route: “The Colonial and the Volcanos Route."

The new route which aims at the integration of Central American tourist resources and services, the promotion of the socioeconomic development of the territories and the conservation of the natural and cultural heritage, will go along the old Royal Road that the Spaniards built on the existing indian routes close to the volcanic mountain ranges of the Pacific coast.

The big main entrance doors to the route are the Antigua Guatemala and Panama and in its itinerary the travelers will be able to discover cities and colonial towns such as Panama, Cartago, Liberia, Granada, León, Comayagua, Gracias, Colosuca, Santa Rosa de Copán, Suchitoto and The Antigua Guatemala, in which the visitor will be able to admire the characteristic handicrafts of the region as well as to enjoy its traditional gastronomy.

The volcanos run parallel along 1,000 km. of the Pacific coast offering a unique landscape in which one can enjoy apart from adventure sports such as canopy, mountaineering, kayaking, rafting and horse riding, more relaxed activities such as hiking and cycling in the great majority of the volcanos.

Also, the Central America Tourist Promotion Agency -CATA - with headquarters in Madrid, will promote the combined route in its European high-priority markets through fairs, seminars and its new web site visitcentroamerica.com.

According to the growth figures obtained, the goal of increasing the number of visitors by 10% can be achieved, owing to the different tourist promotion activities implemented by the country and fostered by the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism, such as the participation in international tourism fairs, the organization of international meetings, congresses and conventions, international sport tournaments, cruises, among others.
