Preliminary Final Report - Building Fairs Brno, URBIS INVEST
The Building Fairs Brno 2006, i.e. IBF, SHK BRNO and ELEKTRO, were the largest show of the building industry and relative branches in Central and Eastern Europe. New concept of the URBIS INVEST Show was attended by all Czech regions incl. Prague and for the first time also by Slovakia and Belarus. The interest of foreign countries in the Building Fairs was extraordinarily high: the number of foreign firms increased by 28 percent to 230, they came from 28 countries and 4 continents incl. the Republic of South Africa, China or Canada. Slovakia and Poland were partner countries of this year’s run, also Germany, Austria and Spain had official stands. Key topic was Green energy. On Thursday the shows were attended by more than 26 000 visitors, most within the only day in show eleventh history. The importance of the Building Fairs Brno was confirmed by a number of prominent guests from the republic and abroad such as for instance Ministers Milan Šimonovský, Bohuslav Sobotka and Radko Martínek. Representatives of the Departments for Local Development of the Viszegrad Four countries, Bulgaria and Romania discussed about EU subsidies for the revitalization of panel housing estates. Also the first meeting of administrators of all Czech and Slovak countries was staged, for the first time in the history.
A rich program of conferences, seminars, discussion meetings and competitions was prepared for all five show days. The most important of them were the conference Two years in EU, 11th International Symposium BRIDGES 2006 with 480 participants, Day of steel structures, conference Development of towns, town planning and cohesion policy or Congress of Mayors and Lord Mayors of the Czech Republic. Fairs were also the opportunity to announce results of prestigious competitions and to present a number of awards, i.e. seven Gold Medals of IBF, SHK BRNO and TOP INVEST 2005, Constructions of the South-Moravian region 2005, Bridges 2004 and the prizes in the largest domestic competition in the past 20 years Wood structure 2006. For the whole show time competitions of apprentices and students of vocational schools took place, for instance National competition in professional skills, branch heating engineer and plumber attended by Slovak, Austrian and Hungarian competitors. Topical theme on protection against floods was staged in the newly built specialized center in front of Hall Z. Thanks to it, Brno became the only city in Europe, where various demanding techniques of efficient counter-flood measures in a swimming pool were demonstrated. An attractive part of the shows was the offer of Building Center EDEN 3000 which is open all the year round. Visitor survey Within first four days the Building Fairs Brno were attended by 3565 visitors from 46 countries. About a half of them came from Slovakia, also the participation of Polish, German, Austrian, Hungarian and Italian visitors was high. Not even the visitors from distant countries such as Japan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Syria or the Republic of South Africa were missing. Most visitors were interested in particular in novelties and trends. Within the first four days the proportion of specialist visitors amounted to 62.4 %, altogether 70.1 % of the respondents decide or co-decide on investments and purchases. A total of 85.1 % of the visitors are decided, as early as now, to come also next year, 55.6 % of them are convinced that the importance of the Building Fairs will be further growing, however, 32.7 % think, it will not change at all. Journalists At the Press Center in Hall E altogether 487 media representatives were accredited within the first four days, 48 of them from abroad. Foreign journalists came from Italy, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Austria, Russia, Slovakia and Great Britain. The next Building Fairs Brno and the URBIS INVEST Show will be staged from 17 – 21 April 2007. The information given is preliminary only. The definitive final report will be published by the joint-stock company Trade Fairs Brno after all statistical data have been audited. The statistical data given are based on the principles laid down by UFI (Union des Foires Internationales). What was said about the Building Fairs 2006 Milan Šimonovský, Vice-Chairman of the Government and Minister of Transport of the Czech Republic: The every-year increased interest of exhibitors and visitors in the Building Fairs Brno clearly proves their importance. I am convinced that the show will offer investors lots of opportunities, new inspirations and also new suppliers‘ solutions contributing to the development and confirming a high standard of the Czech building Industry. Václav Matyáš, President of the Union of Businessmen in the Building Industry of the Czech Republic: The Building Fairs Brno are a visiting card of the good position of the Czech building industry in European context and underline its economic importance. It is a „window“ to Central Europe and the world as Brno has a high foreign representation. László Gyurovsky, Minister of Building-Up and Regional Development of Slovakia: Building Fairs Brno belong to the greatest events of their nature. It is proved not only by the number of their exhibitors, but also by a high participation from Slovakia which is represented by 47 building firms. Juan-Miguel Villar Mir, President of the Building and Investment Group OHL: In my opinion, you have an excellent building fair, undoubtedly one of the best building fairs worldwide. I want to congratulate its organizers. Václav Daněk, Chairman of the Administration Council of the TCHAS company: I would like to thank the organizers as the building fair has acquired, within its eleven runs, a really extraordinary standard. For our firm it is the major presentation event in the year and we are enormously interested in it. Both the service and the atmosphere here at the show are excellent and of a great importance for our firm. Jan Papež, President of the Czech Association of Counter-flood Protection: We thank Trade Fairs Brno Co. for the swimming pool in front of Hall Z, where shows of counter-flood protection are presented. We were visited by lots of mayors and official delegations. The shows aroused great interest of the public, the people are enormously interested in them, in particular following the spring floods. Next year our association wants to invite to Brno world specialists who deal with the problems of counter-flood protection. Jiří Kubeš, Manager of the Division of Marketing ABB s.r.o.: The major effect of the show for our firm is a support of the products by final customers, but also professionals in electrical-installation firms who offer our commodities. Clients who acquaint with our offer at the show do not often wait for any specialist recommendation and order our products themselves. David Skřivánek, Commercial representative of Ptáček- wholesale, a.s.: We are satisfied with this year’s SHK run, we were visited by a number of final customers. Show date was very well chosen as just now the building season begins, lots of people are interested in new bathrooms and come to the fair to acquaint with the novelties on the market. Adam Zelinka, Sales Manager for the Czech and Slovak Republic, Roltechnik, spol. s r.o.: We regularly come to SHK and even have decided not to attend any more foreign shows. Brno is most important for us as our firm is visited by potential customers and it is also a place, where discussions with our business partners are staged. Who wants to be known in sanitation technology, must not be missing at the Building Fairs. Andrzej Bartoš, Headmaster of SOU Brno, Jílová Str.: The show is very important for our branch, the students can view, in the only place, a number of our and foreign branch-related firms which present the most up-to-date technologies and equipment. Trade Fairs Brno Management helps us stage the competitions and enables our students to attend the fairs free of charge. The standard of the shows has been growing, also small firms worldwide start appearing at it as they want to be able to compete with renowned companies.
