LIGNA+ HANNOVER 2007: the world’s leading showcase for the forestry and wood industries

LIGNA+ HANNOVER grows to 1,865 exhibitors and 133,439 square meters of net display space Handwerk, Holz & mehr: magnet for the skilled woodworking trades Spotlight on surface finishing Energy expertise under the EXPO canopy

LIGNA+ HANNOVER 2007 (14 to 18 May) continues to thrive and will hold greater international appeal than ever before. The biennial event has grown steadily from season to season, and this year is no exception. A total of 1,865 exhibitors from 49 nations will be descending on Hannover, Germany, to showcase state-of-the-art forestry and wood industry machinery, tools, processes and solutions to an international audience on a massive 133,439 square meters (1,436,325 sq. ft.) of net display space.
Stephan Ph. Kühne, the Deutsche Messe board member in charge of LIGNA+ HANNOVER, is delighted with the high exhibitor figures: “LIGNA+ HANNOVER 2007 is the international exhibition platform and innovation hub of the forestry and wood industries. Companies that want to be part of the worldwide growth trend in these industries know they have to be in Hannover and show what they’ve got this May.”
Demand is so strong that Mr. Kühne is confident the upcoming show will even top the previous event’s already high figures for booked space. “We have every confidence LIGNA+ HANNOVER 2007 will lend additional momentum to the fast-growing wood industry”, he said. “Hannover offers exhibitors the best chance of connecting with the global marketplace, of managing existing customer relationships and developing new ones. And for their part, visitors will gain a birds-eye view of all available processes and technologies along the skilled-trades and wood-industry production chain, from the tree in the ground to the end product.”
All the global market leaders will have a presence at LIGNA+ HANNOVER 2007. The world’s machinery manufacturers will be showcasing their innovations for sawmilling, wood materials production, the furniture industry, the skilled trades, solid wood working and forestry technology. 1,865 exhibitors (2005: 1,800) from 49 nations (2005: 43) will be profiling the latest trends and innovations on a net display space of 133,439 square meters (1,436,325 sq. ft.), as compared with 129,083 square meters (1,389,438 square feet) in 2005. With 833 confirmed exhibitors, Germany leads the top ten exhibitor nations in terms of display space, followed, as usual, by Italy, this year fielding 329 exhibitors, Austria, Spain, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Taiwan, Sweden and the Netherlands. With over 55 percent of the total exhibitor pool drawn from outside Germany, LIGNA+ HANNOVER 2007 is easily one of the most international trade fairs in the Hannover portfolio.
LIGNA+ HANNOVER is organized by Deutsche Messe and the German Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers’ Association within the VDMA (German Engineering Federation). At the heart of this year’s production is the second season of the “Handwerk, Holz & mehr” presentation that premiered so successfully in 2005. Targeted specifically at the skilled woodworking trades, the ‘fair-within-a-fair will feature the full range of machinery, tools, materials, accessories, software, services and training offerings for carpenters, joiners cabinetmakers, assembly firms, architects, planners and allied professions. The exhibition program is complemented by an array of special presentations, live demonstrations by manufacturers and highly targeted information for the skilled woodworking trades.
Another of the fair’s keynote themes is surface finishing. This year, the surface finishing showcase is embodied in “Wooden Surface Solutions”, a platform created by Deutsche Messe in partnership with the German Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers’ Association within the VDMA and selected exhibitors. Modern wooden surface finishes are extremely sophisticated products, requiring inputs from an equally sophisticated, multi-tier production chain. The interrelationships between the various parts of the production chain will be on show for all to see and inspect in Hall 19. Visitors will be able to gather information from multiple providers and disciplines and view complete, integrated solutions. “Wooden Surface Solutions” will profile the entire spectrum of surface finishing solutions for wood, including a digital printing technique that enables customers to have cupboard doors printed with their favorite photos.
Wood is making a big come-back as an energy source as prices for fossil fuels such as oil and natural gas continue to spiral out of control. The displays and demonstrations on the open-air site and under the EXPO canopy at LIGNA+ HANNOVER 2007 will cover the entire wood energy spectrum, from wood pellet, wood chip and firewood production to the latest in eco-friendly, cost-effective wood burning technology. Companies and institutes will be giving live demonstrations of the entire wood fuel production chain – ‘From Tree to Fuel’ – including a full range of machinery, equipment and applications.
LIGNA+ HANNOVER 2007 also features a full program of special presentations, forums and international conferences to further elaborate on the themes raised in the exhibition program and facilitate knowledge transfer and networking.
The fair also packs its share of pure thrills and excitement. The big entertainment draw card is the 7th Lower Saxony Crane Driving Championships, which gets under way on Thursday 17 May. The best forestry machinery drivers from Lower Saxony will battle for supremacy in three disciplines on the open-air site to the south of the exhibition grounds. No less exciting is the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES, an international series of lumberjack athletics competitions. From 15 to 17 May, international athletes will be putting their sawing and chopping skills to the test on the open-air site at LIGNA+ HANNOVER. On Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16, Germany’s top lumberjacks will participate in a training camp, where they will literally be honing their axe and saw skills to the thrill and excitement of LIGNA+ visitors. This will be followed on Thursday 17 May by the first international cup of the season in Germany.
Held every two years, LIGNA+ HANNOVER is the world's leading showcase for providers of woodworking machinery, forestry technology, reconstituted wood products and timber-based construction solutions. It has been staged at the Hannover Exhibition Center since 1975.
LIGNA+ HANNOVER 2007 is open to the public from 9 am to 6 pm daily from Monday 14 May through to Friday 18 May. One-day tickets cost 20.50 euros each at the gate, or 17 euros if purchased in advance. The admission price for students is 9 euros. As in 2005, the organizers will also be offering afternoon tickets at a price of 5 euros each. These are valid for admission to the fair from 3 pm onwards each day of the fair and are an affordable way for all types of visitor, from private building owners to architects, to visit selected parts of the enormously diverse LIGNA+ tradeshow offering.
