Linda Barker adds a Touch of Finesse to Furnicom Awards
County Durham’s Finesse Fittings have scooped the trophy for the new Furnicom Innovation Award at the W6 Working with Wood exhibition.
Celebrity designer, Linda Barker, visited the shortlisted stands and was impressed with both the diversity of the entrants and the environmental considerations that were apparent amongst the innovations on show. After Linda and fellow judge, Sue Calver (Furniture Consultant at FIRA) deliberated the finalists, Finesse emerged triumphant with their new range of distinctive handles made from the finest lead free pewter. Designed and manufactured entirely in the UK, the unique hand worked finishes highlight the natural beauty of pewter and complement today’s growing choice of wood finishes. In manufacture, Pewter needs no secondary finishing which means the designs have positive environmental benefits – easily recyclable and there is no need to extract other metals in the process. Finesse’s Managing Director, Stephen Widdows, who accepted the award from Linda commented: “We are thrilled to win this Award. We are very passionate about what we do and it’s fantastic that someone else appreciates the craftsmanship in these designs. The fact that they are 100% British makes us particularly proud of this accolade.” The other shorlisted entries were Timbmet Silverman; Merenda; ITW Industrial Finishings; James Latham’s LG HiMacs and Camco. They were chosen by first round judges Prof. Richard Snell of BIAD/UCE and Steve Maher, Director of MRF Design.
