South Africa celebrates freedom day at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre

Zimbabwean students take a night off books to celebrate the 13th South African National Freedom Day with good food and great wine

Marking its return to the Centre, the night’s theme witnessed a transformation of the Grand Ballroom to reflect the nation’s triumph, showcasing significant events and achievements that led to the festivity of the occasion: peace, unity, preservation and restoration of the human spirit.
Entertained by good food and delightful ethnic music, the reception was attended by dignitaries and students garbed in the native dress of various South African communities, and representatives from Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Ghana and Namibia.

The national flag of the Republic of South Africa was adopted on Freedom Day, 27 April 1994, and first flown on 10 May 1994, the day Nelson Mandela was inaugurated as president.
